As a lifelong friend of Peter’s, ever since we went to school together at Berkhamsted, it has been my enduring privilege to create and look after this web site for the last few years. I got to know his father, and mother, well during the 60s and spent several memorable holidays with them, both at RAF stations and at their retreat in Frogmore. Our paths crossed all too infrequently since, but I shall always cherish the brief times I spent with them, including my own personal experience of Benny’s “healing hands” (see his obituary).
Benny was a wonderfully warm, gentle and kind-hearted man whose humility belied the undoubted courage, strength and determination which helped him to endure the privations of the Second World War. I can say with confidence, as a “veteran” of 25 years in the Army, that we could do with a lot more senior officers like him in the military these days!
It is with much regret that, owing to deteriorating health, I must shortly relinquish my task of administering this site. I shall be handing over to my successor shortly and he will undoubtedly publish new contact details in due course. I wish him well.
Best Regards
Martin Barratt
